Summer Dreams, RIP’ed so it seems…

We finally got some more snow after a mostly summery winter here in Colorado. That, and a recent fiber arts summit I attended by Knitting with Chopsticks called The Yarn to Wardrobe Summit, whisked my mind away to an upcoming trip I have to Hawaii. I find myself daydreaming about what beautiful knits and crochets I could be wearing there. It’s all fantasy though, as I really don’t have much time between running a business, designing and being a full-time parent, but it’s nice to dream. Perhaps you can make them for me so that I may live vicariously through you.

Here is something I have already, followed by some things I have the pattern for, and then some of my favourites I drooled over in Ravelry.

This is the Outline Tank by Jessie Maed Designs. I made mine in the summer of ‘22. It’s a quick-ish knit, and the ladder details are fun and satisfying to unravel. Check out my unravelling reel here. Jessie Maed Designs have loads of warm weather knits to choose from. I would love to make them all, honestly.

These are two bralette patterns I purchased from Celine Feyten Designs. The first is a racerback. The second has some beautiful texture details. These pieces are so cute and well engineered that I can’t wait to knit them. I mean, look at that fit! It’s exquisite.

Cropped watermelon granny square crocheted cardigan. Bright yellow with watermelon motifs, ribbed hem and button bands and two large brown buttons. Off shoulder, v-neck style.

I love this Watermelon Cropped Cardigan from BaiRetro. Those bright colors and the fruit just exude summer vibes. After all, watermelons are the quintessential summer fruit - so refreshing, much like this updated take on the classic granny square cardigan.

Continuing in the fruit theme, check out the stunning Crochet Pineapple Stitch Beach Cover Up Dress by Shyler Crochets. It’s absolutely sizzling for summer. How gorgeous is that shaping?! It’s fully figure hugging, so not for the fainthearted, but I’m sure I could start that side panel right from the bust line to give my now impressive belly some positive ease.

This is the Ziqi Cardigan by Susan’s Family. It’s a free Ravelry download, folks, with a video tutorial! What a gift. Just something to throw on to keep the shoulders warm on entering those well air-conditioned areas, like The Bus. Brrr.

Pictures clockwise from top left: Water Clover, Limonata, Davallia, Reduplicate (shorts and tee), Melba, Wefan Tee. From Pom Pom over various magazines.

I’m a huge Pom Pom fan and I couldn’t narrow it down to just one or two patterns - they have such a large output too - so here are six of my favourite Pom Pom patterns for summer wear. I think it’s quite difficult to produce a good Spring/Summer collection for knitwear and the fact that Pom Pom have so many great designs is an impressive achievement in my book. Perhaps it’s easier with crochet. Four out of the six patterns I’ve chosen are crochet and it was quite an even split beforehand in this post. Crochet just lends itself to airy patterns and cotton so beautifully. Of course you can achieve that with lace in knitting and other techniques like the ladders in the Outline Tank. Melba here is knitted and has a very interesting stitch happening within it that I can’t wait to try out. The same can be said for the Wefan Tee which looks nothing like your typical crochet. The Ruduplicate Shorts and Tee have a lace-ish pattern (there are eyelets), but what I love the most is that it’s a two piece set. I just know I would feel so good and smug walking around the beach boulevards in it.

So that’s what I have for you. I’ll throw in a couple of bonus links of things I hadn’t yet gotten photo permissions for by time of publication. If you are inspired to make any of these, please don’t forget to check out our yarn selection, there are lots of suitable options there. We also have some out-of-print Pom Pom Magazines with the patterns for Water Clover, Limonata and Melba - Pom Pom only has digital copies of their magazines available for purchase. The printed magazines come with a code for the digital versions.
